Happy July!

Wow! I have been busy with lots of little creative projects, trying my best to be as productive as possible. The family and I have been staying in Washington state through the whole month of July. Here’s what I’ve been working on so far…

#1) Revised the first four chapters of CAMP OMIGOSH novel…

(Oh, I not only posted the sample chapters on Smashwords, but I also joined WATTPAD!)

I am endlessly impressed (and jealous) with how my fellow writers — especially the younger ones — are so well connected to the internet. They post a story on Wattpad or Smashwords and BAM — they’ve got tons of readers. It’s been a fun learning experience!

#2) Wrote two new picture books…

I won’t reveal the details about ether project, because my agent might want me to keep things on the down-low. However, I will say that they are creative ways of writing non-fiction… and I hope that at least one of them gets picked up. Why Do I Have to Make My Bed wants to have a brother or sister up on the shelf!

#3) Revised MuzAlcatraz…

Finally shaped up the script, trimmed some of the fat, and fixed some of the mediocre lyrics. It’s ready for a table read, and I am hoping my friend Tim Kashani will include it in this year’s Bridge 2 Broadway new works program.

#4) Wrote Chapter One of a Teen YA Novel…

This happened on a whim, and since it’s from the POV of a female character, I have been writing under the pen name of Cheri Siler. My wife wasn’t too happy about that, so I might be changing it real soon.

#5) Wrote a fun, ridiculous one-act play called “Montana Jones and the Gymnasium of Doom.”

I used to write this parody of the Indiana Jones films when I was a kid. And since this summer is about the Great Revision, I wanted to return to it in some way. I wrote this piece in two days. Day one I wrote about ten pages and I was stuck, stuck, stuck. I went to bed thinking that I would scrap the whole project. But when I woke up the next morning I was ready for silliness, and the script came together in a very fun way.

#6) Finished my Stage Version of CAMP OMIGOSH

I really believe in this story, whether it’s a book, play, or maybe someday a movie. This is one of the most wonderfully engrossing writing experiences I’ve had — starting with the novel, and carrying over into this new play version. I am hoping to publish the play and the book at the same time in order to reach two different types of audiences.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Oh, and I am signed up for the upcoming SCBWI conference in August. Cannot wait!
